An IATA report recently, estimated that global SAF production in 2023 was 500,000 tonnes – which, in contrast to the 300+million tonnes of fossil jet fuel used, means that SAF is currently just 0.2% of the total.
This also means that unless a company can reduce its need to travel, or may already be buying SAF, that 𝟵𝟵.𝟴% of its business travel by air continues to be on fossil fuel.
Put aside CO2 calculations for a moment, if we focus on the fuel, and change the narrative to 𝗱𝗲-𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲 – then this is the action required for a company travel programme to become more sustainable. Replace the fossil fuel used with Sustainable Aviation Fuel.
